I. setosa canadensis X FLIGHT OF BUTTERFLIES

#SET-1

The first one to bloom opened in 2002. Bloom color was darker than its pod parent and overall the plant is slightly taller than the setosa. The bud sheaths and pods have a wonderful dark purple tinge and the standards, though still setosa type, are just a teeny bit larger than those of its parent. It's also considerable wider at the hafts than the setosa. Yeah, it's fertile. I planted a batch of selfed seeds and as of August 2003, the seedlings were large enough to photo.

Is it hybrid? I'd bet on it.

A second seedling with standards slightly larger than average bloomed in 2004 but was badly nibbled by a cutworm. I did manage to salvage enough of the bloom to get a scan.
