August 2003: about 1/2 of the seedlings show a rib while 1/2 show no rib at all. Three of the ribbed seedlings are shown here. As 3 1/2 month old seedlings, most of their heights ranged from 4" to 8".
A control group of I. setosa canadensis X self and I. setosa canadensis X I. setosa var. interior was planted at the same time.

control group
Photo taken April 30, 2004. The ruler is a standard 12". The taller ones are the canadensis X interior. Notice how uniform the seedlings from this group are.

F2 seedlings
At a year old the F2 seedlings show a wide range of leaf widths and heights. The tallest is over 16". Some seedlings haven't increased at all while others look more like 3-year olds. Color of the leaves ranges from blue-green to yellow-green and a number of them still show the ribbing evident last fall.
I counted 30 seedlings and 17 are showing signs of blooming this year. Photos will be posted as they bloom. Each thumbnail image is linked to a separate page with larger images and stats.

A few plants from the control group are shown below. Each thumbnail image is linked to a separate page with larger images and stats.
