(1) Big Horn Sheep old winter feeding site is at the south end of Sullivan Lake at Noisy Creek Campground (USFS) east of Metaline Falls. Other big game in the county includes deer, elk, moose, caribou, black & brown bear, cougar and mountain goats; many small animals, including fox, coyote, bobcat, beaver; and wild fowl, including eagle, goose, osprey, duck and heron. Occasionally a grizzly bear can be seen.
The big horn sheep are no longer being feed at this sight during the winter!

(2) Boundary Dam located on Boundary Dam Road north of Metaline. There you will find Seattle City Light hydroelectric dam constructed at Z canyon, which was 17.8' at its narrowest width. In pioneer days, whiskey runners crossed into Canada here. Experience a bit of history at the Crawford Pioneer Log Cabin. PeeWee Falls, a cascading 200' waterfall, will delight boaters. Facilities include boat launch, campground, trails and guided tours.
Go north from Metaline on SR 31, furn on County Road 62, drive 11.5 miles and turn right onto the access road.

(3) Boundary Dam Vista House has an enclosed pavilion, picnic area & viewpoint.
Located north of Metaline Falls, off Hey 31, near the Canadian bourder.

(4) Box Canyon Dam The Public Utility District hydroelectric dam has a viewpoint, camp ground, park, swimming area, visitor center and guided tours. North Pend Oreille Valley Lions Club tour trains cross trestle above dam on selected weekends in the summer and fall.

(5) Chinaman's Bar over a century ago, Chinese immigrants panned for gold at this point in the river.

(6) Congregational Church, 1910.
Located in Ione on Hwy 31.

(7) Cutter Theatre, 1912, built as the Metaline Falls School, it was in use as a school from 1912-1971. (The adjoining gym was built in the 1940's.) In 1994 the building was restored as the Cutter Theatre, featuring live performances, an art gallery and gallery shop, the Historic Schools Display, and housing the Metalines Library, as well as some small businesses. (8) Gardner Cave/Crawford State Park is near the Canadian border on Boundary Dam Road north of Metaline. This cave has stalactites, stalagmites and columns and is the result of an underground stream. It is the largest limestone cavern in Washington. Tours conducted during the summer season. For

(9) Ione Bank, 1909. This is the oldest continuously used bank in Pend Oreille County. It is now MountainWest Bank and still has the original teller bars.

(10) Larsen "Rock House", 1914, built for Lewis Larsen as his residence. The interior features a sunken living room with a massive stone fireplace and high, beamed ceiling. The small detached garage is original, as is the stone lawn fountain.

(11) Meadow Lake Wildlife Observatory After North Baldy Lookout was dismantled in 1989, it was reconstructed at this site as a wildlife viewing tower. Handicapped accessible.

(12) Mill Pond Historical Site Settlers harnessed power from nearby creek to provide hydroelectric power for Metaline Falls through an elevated, wooden aqueduct. Trailhead and scenic day hikes with interpretive signs at points of interest. (Also see Power Plant)

(13) Mountain Goat Viewpoint At certain times of the year goats can be seen on Mt. Linton from this viewpoint
On Boundary Dam Road, just north of Metaline.

(14) Old Miner's Hotel, 1929, planned as housing for miners, construction of the hotel began in 1929 but only the building's exterior, and the interior floors were completed. In 1949, it was finished and used as an apartment building. The building was vacant from approximately 1960-1990, when it was renovated again. Courtyard and lobby are open to the public.

(15) Pend Oreille Mines & Metals Office Building, 1929, built to house the offices of the Pend Oreille Lead & Zinc mine, with an apartment for Lewis Larsen on the 3rd floor, the building was operated by the mine from 1929-1955. Now the Larsen Apartments, the building remains mainly unaltered from its original design. Private residences, closed to the public.

(16) Power Plant, 1910. Metaline Falls Water & Light Co. provided electricity and water for a town and cement plant until the four mile flume collapsed in 1956. (Also see Mill Pond)
Located just north of Metaline Falls, on Hwy 31.

(17) Roosevelt Grove of Ancient Cedars located in northeast Pend Oreille County on the Idaho-Washington State Line. Teddy Roosevelt hunted here amongst an extensive grove of 1,000 year old massive cedars. Nearby is Granite Creek Falls.
Take Sullivan Lake Road east of Metaline Falls, then USFS Rd 302. Check with Sullivan Lake Ranger Station as to conditions of road; or take Nordman, Idaho access.

(18) Sullivan Lake Ranger Station, 1936, it was built by the Civilian Conservation Corp. A new building was constructed in 1994.
Located at the north end of Sullivan Lake.

(19) Sweet Creek Falls There is a nice picnic area next to the creek.
A 5 min. walk from Hwy 31, located 1 mi. south of Metaline.

(20) Tiger Museum, 1912, named for an early settler, this building was originally the Tiger Post Office and General Store.

(21) Washington Hotel, 1906, built to house visitors & workers during the Metaline Falls initial development, the building remains in use as a hotel, and retains the flavor of its original construction. Owner Lee McGowan maintains an art studio on the main floor, which is open to the public.
