Big Horn Sheep
|
Those who follow the Byway along the Pend Oreille River are greeted by vistas of snow-capped mountains, quaint little villages, viewing sites for Mountain Goats, Eagles, Big Horn Sheep and many unexpected sightings of Elk, Bear, Deer, and Cougars. |
- The unique micro climate supports a rich eco-system with the largest diversity of big game animals found in the lower forty-eight states and wonderfully distinctive seasons - each providing different recreational activities. Mining, logging and the production of hydroelectric power represent the historic and modern day economic base for this area. This byway is a destination in itself, a natural route to and from the Canadian Rockies, and a part of the Selkirk Loop connecting Washington, British Columbia, and Idaho. Locally owned restaurants, motels and historic hotels offer modern-day conveniences for those who wish to linger.
