2008 Pend Oreille County Fair
PEND OREILLE COUNTY FAIR RULES
General
- The Fair Board has made every effort to make the rules and regulations definite and clear, but reserves the final and absolute right to interpret them as may become necessary and to settle controversies arising out of, connected, or incident to the fair.
- Superintendents of Departments shall have authority over all matters within their respective departments, subject to the final decision of the Fair Board.
- No special award will be given to any exhibit that does not receive a blue ribbon.
- The fair officially opens 12:00 noon Thursday, August 21st and closes at 5:00pm Sunday, August 24th . Buildings open 9:00am to 9:00pm daily.
- All fair attendees and exhibitors pay admission, which is a season pass: $1.00 for age 6-12, $5.00 for everyone 13 years and over.
- No FOR SALE signs except in designated areas.
- NO SMOKING allowed in grandstands or exhibit buildings.
- Only animals that have been vet inspected and are entered in the Judging Contests will be allowed on the fairgrounds.
- Dogs being kept at the campgrounds must be controlled and leashed at all times. Dogs are NOT allowed in exhibit areas at any time other than Dog Show day.
- NO ALCOHOL allowed on the fairgrounds.
- No unattended minors will be allowed on the fairgrounds after the 9:00pm closing time.
Exhibits
- Books and entry forms may be picked up at the extension office, county libraries and other designated community sites.
- Entries must be made by the person exhibiting them.
- Open Youth Exhibitors are those who are not older than 19 years of age by the end of the fair. 4-H and FFA have their own definitions stated by the organizations.
- All 4-H and FFA animal entry forms must be signed by the member's leader or advisor. Open Youth animal entry forms must be signed by a responsible adult. Livestock exhibitors should have a completed veterinary inspection form filled out.
- Entries must have been made since last fair.
- Special Needs Persons are those with physical handicaps or developmental disabilities.
- Persons eligible to enter the Pend Oreille County Fair:
- Anyone owning property or living in Pend Oreille County;
- Exhibitors living in that portion of Idaho adjacent to Newport and serviced by the Newport Post Office;
- Riverside FFA;
- 4-H members and leaders currently belonging to Pend Oreille County clubs;
- Open class exhibitors serviced by the Elk Postal Delivery Area.
- Exhibits must be in place by 9:00pm Wednesday with the following exceptions:
- Horses only will be received on Tuesday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
- All livestock (beef, sheep, swine, dairy, dairy-beef and goats) and small animals (rabbits, poultry, cavies, chinchillas, pocket pets) must be entered from 2:00 till 7:00pm Wednesday of fair week. Absolutely no animals unloaded without vet inspection. No late animal entries accepted. All decisions of vet will be final.
- Booths must be completed by 9:00pm Wednesday. Livestock stall decorations must be in place by 9:30 a.m., Thursday.
- No exhibit may be removed before 5:00pm Sunday of fair week. No point money will be paid on any exhibit removed early without written permission from the department superintendent. There will be no exceptions. Exhibits not claimed by 6:30 Sunday will be moved to the Fair Office and picked up by appointment.
- The fair board will not be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur. A watchman will be provided day and night to patrol the grounds.
- Each and every livestock exhibitor will supply his own hay and grain. The fair will provide bedding.
Entry Procedure
- Entry forms for livestock and horses are in the middle of the fair book. A printable form is available on our website: www.povn.com/pocofair/ . There is no pre-entry for still exhibits.
- Animal exhibitors should mail their completed forms to Ann Elliott, 225 Wildrose Lane, Cusick, WA 99119. Animal entry forms are due July 15.
- Exhibit tags for still exhibits may be obtained from the Fair Office, 445-1367, three Saturdays prior to the fair 9:00am - 1: 00pm, Fair Week: Monday & Tuesday 10:00am - 1:00pm and all day Wednesday beginning at 9:00am.
- Exhibitors must enter exhibits according to the classification in the premium list. No premiums will be awarded for anything not listed.
- Exhibitors may make only one entry in a class, except where specified.
- An exhibit may be entered in only one Section of the fair: 4-H, FFA or Open Class.
Judging and Premiums
- Judging of horses will begin Wednesday at 8:30am. Judging of other exhibits begins on Thursday and continues through Saturday.
- Judges will be furnished and their decisions will be final. Only exhibits meeting judges' standards will receive ribbons or other awards.
- Awards in all divisions will be made on the Danish system, with awards for three places, Blue, Red and White. Point values are listed for each exhibit. Ribbons will be given on all awards.
- The money value per point will be the same for all awards and will be determined by dividing the premium money available by the total number of points awarded. No awards can be paid until the points have been added up and calculations completed.
- This system does not apply to Mountain West Bank Special Youth Awards, Grange or Community Booths, Pend Oreille Cattlemen-Cowbelles Award or other Educational Exhibits.
Premium Check Cashing Policy
1. Premium checks will be mailed to individual exhibitors.
2. Award checks must be cashed within 90 days.
3. Lost or destroyed checks will be re-issued upon request beginning 90 days following the original issue date. Please contact the Fair Treasurer, Gayle Cagianut, 447-5638.
4. All checks re-issued will have a 10% service fee deducted. |
