PHOTOGRAPHY - OPEN CLASS - Open Class

Department P - Adult
Department PY - Youth

  1. All photos in divisions 1-11 may be black and white or color, film or unaltered digital. Entries must be firmly attached to the face of a single thickness of poster board, matt material or suitable substitute heavy enough to stand erect without bending. Color of mounting board is exhibitor’s choice. Margins should not exceed 2 1/2 inches with a maximum size of 12” X 14” X 1/4” thick. NOTE: NO FRAMED ENTRIES OR CUT OUT MATTS. Hang tabs are NOT needed. Do not put captions or titles on the print.
  2. Exhibitor must have taken pictures within the current fair year.
  3. Scanned images are classified as digital photography. All images, including digital, must be reproduced on photographic paper. Copy paper entries will not be accepted.
  4. SINGLE - MUST be size equivalent to a 5" x 7" (35 square inches) or larger.
  5. GROUP - two or more snapshot size pictures, mounted as above – applies to youth entries only.
  6. ALTERED DIGITAL images such as composites, superimposed photos and/or retouched and pixel-cloned photos must be entered in division 12 regardless of subject. Attach snapshot size original to the back of mount.
  7. General division entries should not be repeats of subjects entered in other divisions. Duplicates will be disqualified.
  8. Youth entering photos in 4-H department are also eligible of enter photos as open class exhibitors but the same photos cannot be entered in both departments.
  9. Exhibitors may make only one entry in each class.
  10. ONLY professionals may enter Division 14 and entries may be film or digital and without restriction to subject. Note: no points will be paid for professional entries, ribbons only. Maximum size 16” X 20”, including mount. A professional is any person who makes photos and sells them for money.

NOTE: While not required, protective spray is highly recommended, especially for digital photos. Fair photos get a lot of handling in that the public viewing them will touch them. Un-coated digital prints are easily damaged.
