2011 Pend Oreille County Fair

MARKET LIVESTOCK

DEPARTMENT C

Section I - Open Class

  1. Each exhibitor must own the animal and give personal care and supervision.
  2. Unmanageable animals will be removed from the grounds by Overall Livestock Superintendents, Barn Superintendents or Judge.
  3. Exhibitors will clean up pens on the Saturday following the Fair.
  4. No animals unloaded before vet inspection, Wednesday, 2:00-7:00pm. Please have your vet inspection slip ready for the vet to sign. Animals will not be stalled without them. All animals must be on the grounds by 7:00pm Wednesday.
  5. Market Animal Sale open to youth 9 to 19 by the last day of the fair.
  6. Fitting and Showing is listed in Dept. Q. Any youth entering a livestock animal at the Fair MUST enter and participate in the appropriate showmanship contest.
  7. Every animal entered must be sold except for white ribbon animals and lambs not gaining at least 20 lb.
  8. Animals must all be slaughtered, at a predetermined time and place, chosen by the Fair Board.
  9. Market Lambs must be weighed June 18th . Market Hogs must be weighed on May 21st.   Market Steers must be weighed in April 16th. Steers will be broke to lead prior to April weigh-in or will NOT be unloaded and weighed. Weigh in time is 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
  10. Market Livestock must be weighed and pre-registered. Accurate records must be kept showing:
    1. Breed of Animal
    2. Animal's name
    3. Total cost of feed, including hay, from weigh-in to weigh-in
    4. Type of feed
    5. Age or Date of Birth

    The above information must be given to livestock superintendent on Wednesday evening, August 17th, upon arrival at the fair.

  11. The same animal or animals must be weighed again at the fair: Swine as they are unloaded (Market Swine exhibitors may elect to enter the animal or take it home); Sheep at 7:00pm Wednesday; Beef at 8:00am Thursday (food and water having been removed 9:00pm Wednesday.
  12. "Carcass of Merit" will be awarded 100 points for any carcass that meets the requirements (available at the extension office) of:
    1. Market Steer publication EB1460E.
    2. Market Barrow publication EB1461E.
    3. Market Lamb publication EB1462E.
  13. Exhibitor may sell only one animal per class.
  14. Change of ownership of animals sold will take place at 5:00pm on the Sunday after the sale.
  15. No unaltered or short scrotum animals
  16. Any animal that does not meet the minimum or that goes over the maximum will NOT be sold.

  1. Market Classes will be split into groups that the livestock arena will safely accommodate. The judge will select from the groups whatever numbers he sees fit to compete in the finals for champion and reserve champion. Grand and reserve champion animals will sell first at the Market Animal Sale, followed by the remaining finals class animals as placed by the judge. The superintendent will then pull al blue ribbon animal, alternately from each group, until all blues are placed in sale order. Then they will pull a red ribbon animal, alternately from each group, until all reds are placed in sale order. White ribbon animals will NOT be sold.
  2. Lambs not gaining at least 20 lb. from June weigh-in to Fair weigh-in will NOT be sold.
  3. The owner of any animal not qualifying for sale will be allowed, at the time of official weighing, to change the division of their animal and show that animal in an appropriate division and class.
  4. Three pens each of rabbits and poultry may be sold, based on availability and judge's choice.
  5. The Fair will NOT be responsible for hauling private treaty animals to the butcher: sheep, hogs, steers.

DAILY RATE OF GAIN CONTEST - Winners determined at Weigh-in

  1. Beef, swine and sheep that are eligible for this contest must be entered in Market Livestock.
  2. Not more than 2 animals per individual must be weighed-in: beef on April 16th., swine on May 21st, sheep on June 18th.
  3. The same animal or animals must be weighed again at the fair: Swine as they are unloaded; Sheep at 7:00pm Wednesday; Beef at 8:00am Thursday (food and water having been removed 9:00pm Wednesday).
  4. The difference between the 1st and 2nd weigh-in will be divided by 120 days for beef, 90 days for swine and 60 days for sheep to equal the Daily Rate of Gain.
  5. The animal's weight must fall between the minimum and maximum weights: Beef: 950 to 1400 lb., Swine: 225 to 280 lb. and Sheep: 95 lb. and up.
  6. Only the animal being sold is eligible for the contest. NEW for 2911: This applies to HOGS only. Daily rate of gain contest is optional. Market hogs not weighed in on May weigh-in day must be registered with the swine superintendents by the weigh-in date.
  7. A trophy will be awarded for the animal with the highest rate of gain (1 steer, 1 hog, 1 lamb).
