Section II - 4-H

Department II

Guidelines for displaying items are:

  1. Vegetables should be clean, not scrubbed, free of disease and uniform in shape, color, size and degree of ripeness.
  2. Root crops should have 2-3" of green top and trim taproots to 1". Kohlrabi should have roots trimmed.
  3. Cabbage, lettuce, chard, etc. should be neatly trimmed at root end. Leave a shell of leaves on lettuce and   cabbage, which would be removed prior to eating.
  4. Dry onions should be selected 7 to 10 days before exhibiting date. They should be wiped clean of dirt, air-dried and a brown shell should be left on. Do not skin the onions down to the white inner layer.
  5. Follow lengths, diameters and amounts requested or a no placing will be given.
  6. Cucumbers, tomatoes and green beans should have ¼ - ½" stem left on; use scissors to be sure.
  7. Trim squash stems to ½ -1".
  8. If you know the variety of squash displayed, please put it on the entry tag.
