FORESTRY - Department OO Open to all 4-H members

DIVISION 4611 Primary, K - 2nd grade, class 1 or 2
DIVISION 4612 Junior, age 8 or 3rd - 5th grades, enter at least 2 exhibits from classes 1 through 10
DIVISION 4613 Intermediate, 6th - 8th grades, enter at least 3 exhibits from classes 11 through 24
DIVISION 4614 Senior, 9th - 12th grades, enter at least 5 exhibits from classes 11 through 24

  1. Collection of 6 mounted tree specimens, include cone if possible.
  2. Collection of 6 forest plants mounted and pressed.
  3. Collection of 6 range plants mounted and pressed.
  4. Cross section of tree growth properly labeled.
  5. Display of 6 wood samples properly labeled.
  6. Identify 5 birds. Tell what they eat, describe the nest, and where they spend winter.
  7. Display a plant press.
  8. Make a fire prevention exhibit.
  9. Show 4 knots, square knot and 3 other useful to forester.
  10. Other or self-determined.
  11. Miniature lean-to shelter.
  12. Show forestry first aid.
  13. Show a first aid kit.
  14. Pruning, showing right and wrong method.
  15. Cross-section showing results of before and after pruning.
  16. Display 3 kinds of edible forest foods (not mushroom).
  17. Map, showing mapping signs of how to get to favorite hiking, fishing or hunting area.
  18. Make article of outdoor camp equipment.
  19. Collection of 6 kinds of forest insects.
  20. Collection of samples of insect damage.
  21. Exhibit of beaver, bear or porcupine-damaged tree, label.
  22. Collection of 6 kinds of fungi or mistletoe properly labeled.

in either Open Youth Arts and Crafts or 4-H Natural Resource Geology
